Age verification procedure - using 192.com to confirm customers are over 18 years old
The Criminal Justice Act 1988, as amended by the Offensive Weapons Act 1996 and the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 makes it an offence to supply a knife, sword or crossbow to anyone under the age of 18.
What happens if we think the customer may be under 18 years old ? We are in contact with Trading Standards and they have assured us that one of the only ways to guarantee the age of a buyer is to request documented proof of age. This is an industry wide necessity and any other similar website will also request the information.
Whilst we appreciate that it is an inconvenience to our customers and indeed ourselves, it is imperative that we stay on the right side of the law, especially as the offence carries a maximum of 6 months in prison and/or a £5,000 fine. If our checks show any doubt in the customer's age, we will request a scan, copy or photo of a form of id provided it shows your name and age. As soon as we get that we can complete your order.
